SPORTS INJURIES AND MEDICAL LIGHT THERAPY

During my 30 years in medicine, I’ve treated sports stars such as basketball Hall of Famers Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, Major tennis and golf champions such as Novak Djokovic and Pádraig Harrington, along with World Cup winning footballers like Thierry Henry and Fabian Bartez.

In that time, I’ve used a number of preventive and rehabilitative sports injuries devices and techniques to get keep my amateur and professional athletes in the game longer and get them back on their feet quicker.

As rewarding as sports can be, injuries can all too often keep professional athletes from winning tournaments and endorsements, and in the case of amateur players, representing their countries, counties and communities with distinction.

So what do I use today to help prevent sports injuries for my amateur and professional athletes and treat injuries when they arise? In a word, BIOPTRON.

Swiss-made BIOPTRON is a non-invasive, non-drug light therapy treatment that stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms via molecular signaling, circulatory modulation, tissue regeneration and the all important inflammation reduction.

A number of commentators report that light therapy has its roots in the former Soviet Union and East European countries, where it was used to improve performance and injury recovery in both military and athletes.

Today, the application of specific light wavelengths and energies to body tissues in amateur or professional sports people elicits a complex chain of positive biochemical responses.
I have treated a wide variety of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and pain with light therapy, (also know as photo-biostimulation). Specifically, polarized light has a hugely positive impact on tendon healing and inflammation and I have accelerated the healing process for the following injuries with BIOPTRON:
  • Tennis elbow;
  • Golfers elbow;
  • Shoulder rotator cuff strain;
  • Tendonitis;
  • Calf and Hamstring injuries;
  • Groin Strain;
  • Back pain;
  • Swelling;
  • Spasms and knots;
  • Neck pain;
  • Pre & Post training stiffness
  • Plantar fasciitis;
  • Many more…
The clear benefits of light therapy are that they reduce the discomfort of pain and inflammation while promoting blood flow and the body’s own tissue repair mechanisms. The net result in clinical studies of the penetrating polarized light from BIOPTRON suggests increased strength of tissue repair and minimal scarring.

In both soft tissue and connective tissue injuries, BIOPTRON can increase the final tensile strength of the healed tissue. By increasing the amount of collagen production/synthesis and by increasing the intra and inter-molecular hydrogen bonding in the collagen molecules, the medical light therapy contributes to improved tensile strength. The preceding effects combine to achieve an accelerated healing rate. The time from onset of injury to mature healed wound is reduced.

Broadly speaking, the benefits of BIOPTRON for sports medicine can be listed as follows:
  • Reduces inflammation;
  • Increases circulation;
  • Boosts endorphin production;
  • Blocks pain transmitting chemicals;
  • Accelerates healing;
  • Eases pain;
  • Non-invasive;
  • Pain-free;
  • Simple to operate;
  • Safe.
